Some people ask us if in Barcelona people dance the flamenco. Well, the answer is yes. Although Barcelona is not very well-known for flamenco, the level is very high because of the many immigrants from the south of Spain (Andalusia).

10 ways to enjoy Barcelona Flamenco

Of all types of dance and music you can find in Spain, flamenco is undoubtedly the best known. Barcelona Flamenco combines beauty and color, song and dance, movement and passion.
Barcelona is the ideal city to discover flamenco: from the typical tablao venue where you can watch a show while enjoying a dinner of traditional Spanish cuisine, to experiencing a full performance from the comfort of a modern theater, the city offers many amazing opportunities to enjoy Barcelona flamenco!
"I feel flamenco" is a Spanish expression which means “I'm feeling sexy, I want you to look at me, I want to show you that I am here for you....” Explore one of these 10 ways to get to know Barcelona flamenco and you too will soon "feel flamenco"!
1. Reach for the high culture of flamenco. In one of the oldest theaters in Barcelona, the Teatro Poliorama, on the famous Las Ramblas, watch a high culture show that will entrance you with a unique fusion of opera, zarzuela and flamenco dancing.
2. Talk "flamenco" like an aficionado! Want to show off your flamenco literacy amongst friends? Casually mention the place where the dancers perform as a tablao, not a stage. Off-handedly refer to those ruffled skirts as faralaes.... And during the show, unashamedly shout out “Olé!” It is like calling out "Bravo" – don’t be shy, let the artists know you appreciate their craft!  Your friends will be as captivated by your sudden knowledge of flamenco as they are by the show!
3. Have a front row seat. If your partner is keener on visiting Camp Nou than watching flamenco, strike a compromise at Tarantos. Here you will have a front row seat as the flamenco dances right up to you and each show is only 30 minutes. It’s enough for your reluctant other half to agree to, and will leave you both wanting more.
4. Share the Barcelona flamenco experience. Paraiso Flamenco is located in Las Lolas, in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, and sells original gifts and souvenirs at a variety of prices. Have fun gift shopping for a frilly skirt (faralaes remember?), flamenco dolls, or simply stock up on paintings of photos of Barcelona Flamenco scenes.
5. Pay homage at the temple of Barcelona flamenco. Tablao Flamenco Cordoba, often referred to as “the temple of flamenco”, is considered by many true flamenco lovers as the best in town. Opened on Las Ramblas in 1970, this venue still serves dinner with a high quality flamenco. Mingle with flamenco fans and inquisitive explorers, and catch the rising Flamenco stars performing alongside more established artists.
6. Book Barcelona Flamenco for your front door. Staying in one of our Barcelona apartments for a weekend away where you can soak up the flamenco is the best way to appreciate the city and the culture. You can practice your flamenco moves at home, crank up the stereo with a flamenco soundtrack, or just be within walking distance of the best Flamenco venues. Check the Flamenco venues in our city guide to see which Barcelona apartments are closest to the flamenco you want to see.
7. Flamenco fun for your friends and family. Share the floamenco traditions with your nieces, or young girls in your extended friendship network. Most Spanish girls go crazy when they are given a pair of flamenco shoes. And no wonder! They are really cute! Get a pair with red and white polka dot heels for the most traditional. It’s a completely original and fun gift for the little girl in your life, even if that’s you!
8. Heat up with flaming flamenco. For the more adventurous, try La Macarena for more than just a typical Barcelona flamenco night out. This roguish institution offers a truly original take on flamenco. If you are lucky, the night you visit you will see the extraordinary Carmen de Mairena, Spanish Television’s famous flamenco transvestite. Not for the shy-at-heart, this is a hot, wild and fun interpretation of flamenco, like Madame Mairena herself!
9. Cool down with floral flamenco. You will be captivated in the Flora Albaicin store, a tiny shop crammed full of everything you need to dance flamenco (or to dress up as a flamenco dancer in any case!). Fabric flowers for the hair, traditional fans, bracelets in every conceivable color ... it will be difficult to choose only one item. Treat yourself to a Spanish whim, or stock up on your next sexy Halloween or fancy dress costume.
10. Put a flamenco soundtrack to your life. Visit Etnomusic and seek advice from expert staff in Spanish music to find the best flamenco music. You can start playing your tunes back at your Enjoy Barcelona apartment and lose yourself in the dance: Make the cat eyes, roll your hands as if swinging two fans and relax your body so it can find its own groove. That's the secret to dancing Barcelona flamenco!
